Telecommuting is becoming more and more popular amongst job seekers as it offers a much better balance between work and free time.

“We hear from professionals who are interested in telecommuting jobs in a wide variety of places across the country, and these top states reflect that,” said Sara Sutton Fell, CEO of FlexJobs. She also added: “I actually would have suspected more rural states hoping to cast a wider net in the job hunt to top the list. California being a tech-oriented state makes sense as well, though.”

Here’s the entire list of the top 10 telecommuting states:

  1. California
  2. Texas
  3. Florida
  4. New York
  5. Georgia

Although there are some disadvantages of working from home, the numerous benefits completely outshine them. For instance, you’ll be more productive and have more time for your friends and family while at the same time accomplishing all your tasks and assignments.

Secondly, you won’t spend hours commuting and struggling with traffic. Additionally, you’ll save money on transportation including bus tickets, fuel and parking. Besides, you won’t need to spend a fortune on professional wardrobe since you don’t even have to get dressed in order to do your job. Basically, you work in the comfort of your own home and can organize your day as you find suitable.

Moreover, telecommuting provides a less stressful environment which will benefit your health in more ways than one. If you learn how to organize yourself and effectively manage your time, fewer things will distract you which will enable you to be as productive as possible.

And last but not least, working from home enables you to have an ideal balance between your work and your personal time. Since your home is your office, you’ll see more of your family. For instance, you can have lunch with your loved ones in your own dining room. Most importantly, an 8-hour work day is really an 8-hour work day which will provide you with enough time to truly enjoy your private life.
